Type: White
Origin: China
Price: Free sample (regular price - $9.95 for 15 Pouches)
Vendor: Mighty Leaf
Brewing Method: Per Instructed - 1 pouch, 1 cup of filtered water, heated to 180°F, steeped for 3 - 5 minutes
Overall Score: 4.0 out of 5
White Orchard is a white tea infused with melon and peach. The dry blend is quite aromatic and fruity. I can definitely smell the peach while the melon aroma is close behind. The white tea aroma gets taken over by the double dose of fruit.
The peach aroma is brought out more while the leaves are steeping. With a nice breezing coming through the open window it fills the whole room with this scent. The melon can be detected but it likes to stay in the background. The liquor is a greenish yellow color.
The taste is light with a lot of peach flavor up front. The melon settles in the after taste. The white tea flavor is missing amongst the fruity flavors, but the astringency from it can be noted. It also has some tartness from the peach. The tea is rather sweet and not bitter at all. The astringency comes on more and more with each sip, however.
I believe this tea would be much better when iced or chilled. I think that would be more refreshing as it would hold back some of the dryness that this tea provides. I can see now why this tea is a part of Mighty Leaf’s Sangria Collection because it has several characteristics similar to a fruity wine.

Teas Etc’s Bai Hao Silver Needle Review
Type: White
Origin: Fujian, China
Price: Sample (regular price – $22.95 for 3oz.)
Vendor: Teas Etc
Brewing Method: Per Instructed - 1 teaspoon of leaves, 1 cup of filtered water, heated to 180°F-190°F, steeped for 3 -6 minutes
Overall Score: 3.7 out of 5
Bai Hao Silver Needle is an organic Chinese white tea. A fresh and sweet aroma comes from the dry leaves. There is a little grassiness in the aroma, but overall the leaves smell very fresh like recently cut grass… that clean smell. These leaves are long, hairy, buds that are light green in color.
The aroma is subtle, but when I finally find it, it smells grassy and dew-like. The liquor is an exceptionally light yellow color.
The taste is subtle and mellow. It has a nice, sweet, grassy flavor. It is not bitter, but it does dry my mouth out after the first 2oz cup. The flavor is really delicate, but the reward is how sweet it is. However, it is more astringent than I care for.
The vendor describes this tea as “smooth,” but I am not sure where they taste that. The taste of this tea is so light that it’s hard to find and by the time it’s found it’s too astringent to fully enjoy. This is my opinion after steeping it for 2 minutes. Maybe an extra 30 seconds to 1 minute might help that.

Canton Tea’s Jasmine Yin Zhen Review
Type: White
Origin: Fuding County, Fujian Province
Price: Sample (regular price – £13.99 for 100g)
Vendor: Canton Tea Company
Brewing Method: Per Instructed - 1 teaspoon of leaves, 1 cup of filtered water, heated to 160°F-170°F, steeped for 1-3 minutes
Overall Score: 4.5 out of 5
Jasmine Yin Zhen is white tea infused with jasmine. I barely opened the package and I could already smell the sweet floral jasmine. The leaves are long, rolled, and fuzzy – tiny hairs cover each strand making them soft and silky to the touch. They are a light green color with some dark tips here and there.
The jasmine scent really comes out during the steeping of the leaves. The liquor is a very light green color. There is actually tea in those cups in the picture, but the liquor was so light that it was really hard to take a good picture of it.
The taste is very sweet and floral. The jasmine is really all I can taste, but it’s not overpowering. Overall, the tea is smooth and mellow. Bitterness isn’t an issue, but there is a faint hint of astringency. The brew is quiet refreshing.
I was nervous about trying this tea because I was not a jasmine fan – notice the past tense. This tea, in my opinion, is perfectly infused with the jasmine scent/flavor. There is not too much in which usually engages my reaction of sip, grimace, swallow, cough, curse, and then make a small effort to find a tea lover with a jasmine fetish that may enjoy that particular over flavored crap. However when I hit the bottom of my cup, this time, I was ready for more.

The Simple Leaf’s Decadence Review
Type: White
Origin: Rungmook Estate in Darjeeling, India
Price: $15.95 for 1oz
Vendor: The Simple Leaf
Brewing Method: 1 teaspoon of leaves (2.5-3 grams), 1 cup of filtered water, heated to 160°F-170°F, steeped for 2-3 minutes.
Overall Score: 4.8 out of 5
Decadence is a delicate white tea from Darjeeling, India. The loose leaves are huge, long strands – and by long I mean a good inch and a half. They are a beautiful mix of light greens, dark greens, and whites.
The aroma of the dry leaves is very fresh and vegetal. It reminded me of the smell of spring, where everything is lush and full of life.
The aroma of the tea is light, but, once you find it, it has a fresh, crisp smell. The liquor is a pretty pale yellow color. I have had many white teas, but I don’t think I have ever tasted a white tea as smooth as this one. It has a very delicate taste. It is very crisp, light, and I think it is safe to say refreshing. There is not even a hint of bitterness or astringency anywhere near this cup. I think this tea would be best served after a meal, because I think if this were served with food, you might lose the delicate flavor.
This tea is not an “every day” type of tea – you will notice that when you take a look at the price. However, you can serve this tea to your special guests… kind of like breaking out “the good wine” on those certain occasions.
I think this would be a nice tea to get when entertaining guests during the holidays. Serve this to fight the tryptophan from the turkey so you can stay awake enough to actually watch the football game (and tea also aides in digestion too… for those second and third helpings)!
